Recorded by Polish Audiovisual Publishers the concert held by the Kronos Quartet on 11 November 2006 at the Second Festival of Polish Music in Cracow, was entirely devoted to works by Polish composers - from the avant-garde of the sixties to recent works. Four different scores represent a significant fregment of Polish repertoire for string quartet written between 1960-2006. (...) During over thirty years since its first concert in 1973 the Kronos Quartet has become one of the most influential and celebrated ensembles of our time. It has performed thousands of concerts, released over 40 recordings, and collaborated with several composers and performers worldwide. It specializes in music of the second half of the 20th century and the contemporary repertoire, also the arrangements of ethnic, jazz and rock music. The Kronos Quartet has commissioned more than 500 new works and arrangements for string quartet, and premiered over 450 of them. It received numerous awards including a Grammy for Best Chamber Music Performance (2004) and Musicians of the Year (2003) from Musical America.
